Le problème du créneau de réactivité est un exemple d’utilisation de l’équation de Nordheim : à partir d’une situation critique équilibrée, une réactivité donnée est introduite de façon supposée instantanée et maintenue constante pendant une certaine durée au bout de laquelle la criticité est rétablie de façon également instantanée. [Prenons pour exemple] l’évolution de n(t), c’est-à-dire, à un facteur près, de la puissance du réacteur, pour un créneau de durée 30 secondes. On pourra observer après chaque variation de la réactivité, un «saut rapide» (prompt jump) suivi d’une évolution plus régulière.
