The Public Appointments Commission Secretariat was created by Order in Council on April 21, 2006. The Secretariat was created to prepare the ground for the establishment of the Public Appointments Commission, whose mandate is described in the Federal Accountability Act. The Commission and its Secretariat are within the portfolio of the Prime Minister, reflecting the prerogative of the Prime Minister with respect to Governor-in-Council appointments.

Il a été mis en place pour préparer le terrain en vue de l'établissement de la Commission des nominations publiques. Le mandat de la Commission est énoncé dans la Loi fédérale sur la responsabilité. La Commission et son secrétariat font partie du portefeuille du Premier ministre, compte tenu de la prérogative du Premier ministre en ce qui concerne les nominations faites par le gouverneur en conseil.
