Any neurologic syndrome attributable to a lesion of the pyramidal tracts, and marked by paralysis (which, in cases of sudden onset, is initially flaccid in type), with spasticity developing later and with exaggeration of the deep tendon reflexes, clonus, and the Babinski sign on the affected side.

Le syndrome pyramidal se caractérise par l'association de signes déficitaires de la motricité volontaire (variables selon la hauteur de la lésion sur l'axe cérébro-spinal), témoignant de l'atteinte directe de la voie pyramidale, et généralement suivis par des signes de spasticité qui traduisent la libération d'activités motrices réflexes normalement inhibées par le système pyramidal.
