The Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band (Pronounced: ha-lee-boo, Meaning: Caribou), is [a] band (First Nation) as defined by the Indian Act, created by order-in-council in 2011 pursuant to the Agreement for the Recognition of the Qalipu Mi'kmaq Band. It represents the Qalipu Mi'kmaq of Newfoundland and Labrador. The band does not control any reserve lands.

The Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation exists to achieve the advancement of [their] people. [They] accomplish this through being spiritual, accountable, professional and progressive.

[Goals:] Create a strategic approach to Band revenue generation that is based on objective evaluation of economic opportunities. ... Assist QMFN communities to improve economic related outcomes for Band members. ... Work with strategic partners to enhance the conservation of aquatic resources in Ma'Kmaq communities. ... Maximize the access of Band members to employment, training and post-secondary education opportunities. ... Improve access to health and social programs for Band members. ... Increase Band members' knowledge of the Mi'Kmaq culture and heritage. ... Provide financial accountability to funders, Band members and interested stakeholders. ... Administer and manage the work of QMFN professionally and accountably. ... Proactively engage funders, Band members and other interested stakeholders in the activities and accomplishments of QMFN. ... Create an accountable and transparent governance model for the QMFN Chief and Council. ... Maximize the benefits to the Band from the Muskrat Falls Hydroelectric project.
