Une radiolarite est une roche sédimentaire à grains fins peu visibles à l'œil nu, présentant une alternance de bancs foncés/bancs clairs. Elle est composée essentiellement de coques siliceuses de radiolaire, protozoaire planctonique Actinopode vivant dans les mers chaudes.
