The Bureau of Censorship was established in 1912. In 1967, the name changed to Cinema Supervisory Board. In 1974, the name changed again to Bureau de surveillance du cinéma although the name Cinema Supervisory Board may appear on documents after 1974. In December 14, 1983 the name changed for the last time to Régie du cinéma.
