Nous avons vu en formation de la maille avec l'aiguille à bec que le cueillage déterminait la longueur de la boucle et par cela même la serre. Sur l'aiguille à clapet, c'est la profondeur de descente de l'aiguille qui détermine la serre. Il n'y a pas d'unité particulière pour mesurer la serre, celle-ci se donne en nombre de mailles au centimètre, au pouce, aux deux centimètres, etc. [...] Il suffit de spécifier la longueur choisie, la mesure sera d'autant plus précise que la longueur choisie sera grande.
