Reilly, de la Universidad de Texas, formuló la ley que se conoce con su nombre, o también como de la gravitación comercial, y que textualmente dice; "dos ciudades atraen el comercio al detalle de la zona intermedia, en razón directa de la población de ambas ciudades, y en razón inversa del cuadrado de la distancia." La ley de Reilly permite, con ciertos correctivos, delimitar las áreas comerciales.
