An amendment to the Old Age Security Act provides for payment of SPA (Spouse's Allowance) to any widow or widower who is between the ages of 60 and 64, has been a Canadian resident for at least 10 years after age 18 and meets the income eligibility and residency status criteria. Benefits under Widowed SPA became payable to eligible widows or widowers as of September 1985.

Une modification à la Loi sur la sécurité de la vieillesse prévoit le paiement d'une Allocation au conjoint à toute personne veuve âgée de 60 à 64 ans qui a été résidant canadien pendant au moins 10 ans passé l'âge de 18 ans et qui répond aux conditions de revenu et aux critères de statut de résident. Les prestations en vertu de l'Allocation au conjoint survivant sont accordées depuis septembre 1985.
