Selon la norme ISO R1750, 1973, "Le nom resméthrine" n'est pas acceptable pour l'emploi en France, en raison de la possibilité de confusion avec le nom commun desmétryne". Cependant, la norme AFNOR T72-018, 1977, donne ce même terme comme le "nom commun normalisé en France", sans autre observation.
