Le noyau réticulaire thalamique. Ce noyau en forme de croissant borde la partie externe du thalamus. Il contient de grandes cellules fusiformes qui sont toutes GABAergiques et qui exercent une action inhibitrice sur les cellules de relais. Le noyau réticulaire comprend des secteurs visuel, auditif, somesthésique, etc., qui sont en relation synaptique avec les noyaux thalamiques correspondant à ces modalités sensorielles.
