OBS

Este virus posee la cualidad de transformar su ARN en ADN para de esta manera transmitir su código genético a la célula infectada y lograr así que cuando la célula intente reproducirse, en realidad produzca retrovirus. En la naturaleza lo común es ver como el ADN se transforma en ARN, pero no al contrario, por eso este tipo de virus, por la cualidad de realizar este proceso al revés, se llama retrovirus. El proceso de transcripción genética lo efectúa una enzima viral llamada transcriptasa inversa.
