Par le terme «aides», on désigne les mains, les jambes, la répartition du poids du cavalier, la gaule, la voix. La main communique ses indications à la bouche du cheval par les rênes. Les jambes transmettent la volonté du cavalier aux parties latérales du cheval. L'éperon sans pointes peut agir avec une finesse indicatrice et directrice non coercitive, supérieure au contact du talon nu. Les répartitions de poids suggèrent et favorisent les changements de direction, d'allure et d'équilibre.
