Il est difficile de respecter à la fois les normes de conservation du Musée canadien de l'histoire et le protocole de soins traditionnels. Il est important de se conformer aux unes comme à l'autre. Par exemple, les normes de conservation recommandent de ranger certains articles dans des sacs en plastique pour prévenir les infestations. Cependant, les plumes, les paquets et les fourrures sont des objects sacrés. Selon le protocole des soins traditionnels, ils sont considérés comme vivants et donc doués d'un esprit, rendant de ce fait impossible leur entreposage dans des sacs en plastique.
