Les dimensions de la fosse sont calculées par informatique au moyen de logiciels simulant la trajectoire des blocs d'éboulis dans une falaise rocheuse. Cette solution doit tenir compte, entre autres, de la hauteur et de la pente de la falaise, de la nature des matériaux qui constituent la pente, et du dégagement au pied de la falaise.
