The MLA [light metro lane] vehicles consists of one or more coaches permanently coupled, electric propulsion and automated constrained drive, suited to run both ways. ... The line consists of two runways, separate and next to each other, each one dedicated to one running way. The line has been planned in order to be efficiently adapted to the lay-out features and has been integrated in a light-built way, both from the construction and optic point of view, thanks also to the rather slim size and agility of the coaches. The overall width of the MLA-way is about 7 m, including both running ways and the pedestrian service-gangways.

BRT [bus rapid transit] is a flexible form of rapid transit that combines transit stations, vehicles, services, running way, and ITS [intelligent transport system] elements into an integrated system appropriate to the market it serves and its physical environment. BRT uses vehicles that may be driver-steered, guided mechanically or electronically. It can be incrementally implemented in a variety of environments, from totally dedicated to transit (surface, elevated, underground) to mixed with other traffic on streets and highways.

Les transports en commun en site propre utilisent, en général, des trains électriques intitulés métropolitains si les réseaux qu'ils empruntent leur sont spécifiquement affectés et chemins de fer de banlieue lorsqu'il s'agit de voies ferrées nationales. [...] La voie de roulement est, en général composée de deux rails de métal fixés à des traverses s'appuyant sur un ballast de pierre ou reposant directement sur une plate-forme de béton par l'intermédiaire d'ancrages en caoutchouc. Les véhicules sur pneus mis au point par la régie autonome des Transports parisiens nécessitent des voies de roulement en béton, situées à l'extérieur des rails métalliques classiques qui conservent un rôle de guidage au droit des aiguillages.

Les modes de transport. [...] Mixtes. Il s'agit d'un nouveau mode qui apparaît au début des années 1990 et doit permettre d'offrir aux villes un véhicule de TCSP intermédiaire entre le site propre bus et le tramway. Ses principaux atouts sont une capacité à l'heure supérieure au bus, une emprise au sol inférieur du fait du guidage, une flexibilité qui lui permet de se déconnecter du mode de guidage pour poursuivre seul sa route sur différentes branches moins denses. Les inconvénients : n'encouragent pas la priorité absolue, moindre capacité à l'heure qu'un tramway..., coût proche des tramways modernes (type Orléans), usure de la voie de roulement, bruyant pour les modes guidés fer.
