The preliminary mandate of the Rural Issues Office (RIO) is to work with rural residents, and with provincial departments and agencies to focus programs and assisting rural residents to build on the economic opportunities in rural Saskatchewan; to develop new initiatives to contribute to rural economic development; to work to alleviate obstacles to rural opportunity; to assess government policy decisions for their impact on the rural economy; to advocate and communicate rural achievement and to consult regularly with rural residents and businesses about rural economic opportunities and challenges.
