Le ministère de l'Agriculture du Québec établit une distinction, facilement compréhensible et justifiable, entre les expressions sans sucre et non additionné de sucre; par exemple, un jus de raisin blanc est naturellement sucré. La même distinction s'applique aux expressions sans sel et non additionné de sel.

Par extension, on parle de régime sans sel (salt free diet), pour désigner une alimentation dont le sel est éliminé.
