Procédé de vernissage des grès, consistant à jeter du sel marin dans le four à la fin de la cuisson. (Cette technique tend à disparaître à cause de la corrosion excessive des réfractaires du four. Aujourd'hui, on préfère émailler les grès avant de leur faire subir la monocuisson.)

Le salage, parfois pratiqué en fin de cuisson unique vers 1200-1300 degrés Celsius par projection de sel marin dans les foyers a l'avantage de donner un vernis alcalin dont la pellicule mince n'empâte pas les reliefs.
