Seam Strength. The joining of geomembrane panels together results in a seam which is often significantly weaker than the geomembrane itself. This is particularly true of seams made in the field versus those made in the fabrication factory, where quality control can be exercised more rigorously. To determine the strength of a geomembrane seam, two types of tests are common: sheer and peel. In both types a representative specimen (or specimens) is taken across the seam and placed in a tensile testing machine.

[Résistance de la liaison:] L'assemblage par couture est le plus fiable. Il peut être exécuté directement sur le chantier à l'aide de machines à coudre portatives. Dans ce but, les bandes de géotextile à assembler présenteront un chevauchement d'environ 0.10 m, qui suffit pour assurer la continuité du géotextile. L'assemblage par couture est le seul qui convient lorsque la fonction majeure du géotextile est de renforcer. La liaison doit alors être de résistance au moins égale à celle du géotextile.
