The IBP [International Biological Programme] News no. 2 states that there are three main aspects of secondary terrestrial productivity which ought to receive prominent attention in subsequent investigations. [One of these is] the study of secondary production in direct relation to man's current and possible needs and in those communities whose secondary producers are important, or have potential importance, for man.
