Mattness and Sharkskin ... - The mild form, mattness, consists of a loss of surface gloss, while the severe form, "sharkskin", gives finely spaced, sharp, regular circumferential ridges in the extrudate.

À partir d'une certaine vitesse du piston, ce qui revient à dire, à partir d'un certain débit de matière, la surface de l'extrudat se couvre de fines stries perpendiculaires au sens d'avancement. À cause de la rugosité de la surface alors formée on a choisi d'appeler ce défaut «peau de requin».

On lui doit en particulier une part prépondérante dans le programme Rivlet, inspiré par l'exceptionnelle fluidité et les qualités d'hydrodynamisme de la peau de requin.

This fabric can be considered as a lighter quality sharkskin than 'tricot/satin' hence the USA term 'sharkskin".

Fait d'un gros fil multifilamenteux en chaîne et en trame, ce tissu contient toutes sortes de fils manufacturés. Son armure est unie. C'est un des tissus les plus pesants de sa catégorie. Il est quelque peu rugueux au toucher. Quelquefois, son armure est demi-nattée afin d'avoir, au pouce, plus de fils de trame. On teint généralement ce tissu en couleurs pastel et il est très rare de le trouver parmi les imprimés. La peau de requin sert surtout à confectionner des vêtements sport.
