Il existe deux méthodes de croissance de rubans, la croissance horizontale et la croissance verticale. Parmi les méthodes de croissance verticale on distingue: la croissance dendritique (cf. pos.317) et la croissance de type Czochralski, dans laquelle on impose au silicium liquide d'épouser une géométrie particulière au moyen de pièces en forme comportant des fentes, des rainures, des capillaires etc. (Acta electronica, 20,2,1977, p. 106-107).
