[Pour argenter le cuivre ou le laiton, il] faut commencer par décaper [...] l'objet qu'on a l'intention d'argenter [...] Lorsque le cuivre ou le laiton est parfaitement clair, on humecte avec de l'eau un peu de la poudre connue dans le commerce sous le nom de poudre d'argenture, puis on en frotte pendant quelque temps la surface parfaitement claire de l'objet de cuivre ou de laiton, qui se trouve ainsi recouverte d'une couche d'argent métallique; on peut ensuite polir avec un cuir doux.
