Le sport se pratique dans un parcours enneigé en forme de demi-lune. Un panel de cinq juges qui accordent une note sur 100 évalue l'impression générale des descentes en tenant compte de l'amplitude, du style ainsi que de la diversité, de la difficulté et de l'exécution des manœuvres. Pour obtenir le pointage de la descente, on fait la moyenne des notes accordées par les juges. La compétition commence par une ronde de qualification où l'on retient la meilleure des deux descentes pour déterminer les 12 skieurs qui accéderont à la finale, disputée selon le même principe.
