On appelle autocorrélation spatiale le fait qu'en général deux lieux ou unités spatiales quelconques voisins ont plus tendance à se ressembler que deux lieux éloignés l'un de l'autre. Nous pouvons définir l'autocorrélation spatiale comme étant l'observation de la réalisation d'un processus stochastique spatial qui est tout sauf indépendant spatialement.
