On April 20, 1993, the Oak Lake Sioux First Nation (now known as the Canupawakpa Dakota First Nation), on behalf of the descendants of Turtle Mountain IR 60, maintained that the surrender vote was improperly taken and submitted its claim to Specific Claims West of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (DIAND).
