Le premier système de paris qu'administrera la Société canadienne des paris sportifs, «Sport Select Baseball», a été lancé le 1er mai 1984. Selon le Téléjournal de Radio-Canada en fin de soirée ce jour-là, des systèmes semblables seront créés pour le hockey, le football et le soccer.

Une création du gouvernement libéral, la Société canadienne des paris sportifs a été dissoute après l'arrivée au pouvoir d'un gouvernement conservateur le 4 septembre 1984.
