All CANDU units have large steam reject valves able to discharge steam either to the atmosphere or to the condenser with the reactor at 60% FP. They are also equipped with smaller steam reject valves that are able to discharge steam to the atmosphere at the decay heat power level, if the condenser is unavailable.

Tous les réacteurs CANDU sont équipés d'une soupape à grand débit prévue pour évacuer la vapeur dans l'atmosphère ou le condenseur, alors qu'il fonctionne à 60 % de sa capacité maximale. Ils sont également équipés de plus petites soupapes d'évacuation de la vapeur dans l'atmosphère, pour évacuer la chaleur résiduelle (désintégration des produits de fission) à l'arrêt, si l'on ne peut diriger la vapeur dans le condenseur.
