Steam thawing is possibly one of the best methods for thawing underground sewers and hydrants. The steam from a portable boiler can be injected into a sewer pipe or hydrant through an opening and utilizing a long steam hose. The steam not only thaws the frozen sewer pipe or hydrant, but it also heats the pipe so that the earth around the pipe is also thawed.

Le dégel à la vapeur est probablement l'un des moyens les plus efficaces connus pour dégeler les bornes d'incendie et les tuyaux d'égout enfouis. À l'aide d'un long tuyau souple, on injecte la vapeur produite par une chaudière portative par une ouverture qui donne accès au tuyau ou à la borne d'incendie en question.
