Le hennin consiste en un cornet très élevé qu'on portait incliné en arrière. La hauteur de ce cornet variait avec le rang social; le hennin des bourgeoises ne pouvait dépasser 60 centimètres. De l'extrémité pendait un voile qui descendait jusqu'aux épaules et même jusqu'aux reins.
