La stéréophotogrammétrie peut être terrestre, aérienne ou spatiale, selon que les clichés ont été pris à terre, dans un aéronef ou depuis un satellite. Son application principale est le lever photogrammétrique, mais elle est utilisée avec des profits dans d'autres domaines : lever d'architecture, d'objets en mouvement, etc.
