This strategy was established in 1992 to develop mechanisms for matching the research priorities of developing countries with the interests of donors. The Strategy for International Fisheries Research seeks to encourage the coordination in fisheries research for the sustainable development of living aquatic resources. Cette stratégie a été mise en œuvre en 1992 en vue de développer des mécanismes d'harmonisation entre les priorités de recherches manifestées par les pays en voie de développement et les programmes de coopération définis par les donateurs. C'est dans ce contexte que la SIFR cherche à assurer l'intégration du concept du développement durable aux recherches dans le secteur des ressources halieutiques.
