A rock displaying stratification.

OBS

The term is virtually synonymous with sedimentary rock, although some sedimentary rocks (such as tillite) are without internal stratification. The term is sometimes, but not generally, applied to layered igneous rocks.

(...) les roches sédimentaires (...) ne s'étendent pas indéfiniment en profondeur. Elles forment des couches, presque toujours plus étendues en superficie qu'en épaisseur : elles sont stratifiées.

stratifié,ée (...) : Qui est disposé en couches superposées, en strates. Roches stratifiées.

OBS

On parlera de "roche litée" lorsque l'épaisseur des strates est inférieure à un centimètre (voir fiche "roche litée").
