Ensemble de populations de la Germanie habitant au-delà de l'Elbe. Une partie se dirigea vers le Rhin avec Arioviste (58 av. J.-C.), mais les Suèves se fixèrent surtout entre le Rhin, la Saale et le Danube (Souabe, ou pays des Suèves). Ils traversèrent la Gaule au début du Ve s. et passèrent en Espagne, où ils fondèrent en Galice un État qui dura jusqu'en 585.
