The production of superoxide radicals at the membrane level (NADPH [nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate] oxidase) is initiated in specialized cells (oxidative burst) with phagocytic functions (macrophages) and contributes to their bactericid action.

Le radical superoxyde : comme déjà vu, 5% de l’oxygène que nous absorbons pour brûler les aliments, s’échappe sous la forme du radical superoxyde. Les globules blancs du système immunitaire utilisent également ce radical pour éliminer bactéries et virus. Au total, nous en fabriquons pas loin de 2 kg. tous les ans !
