In radio communications, an electronic assembly capable of generating a stable and accurate signal frequency derived from a single crystal-controlled oscillator or a phase-locked loop (PLL) circuit. The use of frequency multipliers, dividers and mixers provides a large number of discrete frequencies which are usually selected and displayed by digital means.

OBS

Communication receivers and transceivers equipped with synthesizers do not have tuning knobs and dials, the operating frequency is usually selected on a digital keypad.

Les postes de radiocommunication munis de synthétiseurs n'ont pas de bouton de syntonisation relié à un cadran; habituellement on choisit la fréquence de travail à l'aide d'un clavier numérique.
