A more progressive group, the so-called tarsioids, had short faces and very large eyes that were beginning to turn forward. Their nearest living relative may be Tarsius, which now lives in Borneo, the Celebes, and the Philippine Islands.

Bien que les Singes n'apparaissent qu'à l'Oligocène, il ne semble pas que les Tarsidés éocènes puissent avoir été à leur origine, car leurs spécialisations étant déjà très prononcées, leurs potentialités évolutives devaient être fortement réduites. Ces animaux soulignent toutefois les affinités qui existent entre les Primates et les Insectivores; en outre, les plus anciens, d'entre eux sont les premiers à montrer, donc très précocement, la tendance à l'augmentation de la capacité crânienne.
