On qualifie de «faille de déchirure», des cassures coulissantes qui désolidarisent deux compartiments en cours de déformation, leur permettant de subir des déformations indépendantes, différentes dans leur dessin et dans leur ampleur (par exemple des plis plus ou moins serrés).
