Par rapport au schéma minimal de la figure 7, on trouve bien entendu des variantes, notamment en introduisant des dispositifs complémentaires. On peut en particulier ajouter des registres de travail temporaires d'accès plus facile et plus rapide que la mémoire, et des registres d'indicateurs: ils sont positionnés à 1, si le résultat d'une opération effectuée en UAL est positif, ou s'il est nul, ou s'il y a un dépassement de capacité, ou un report, etc.; ces indicateurs permettent en particulier d'opérer des branchements conditionnels (ils interviennent dans les états du système qui commandent le séquenceur).
