Les conclusions de l'ensemble de ces travaux [analyses paléoclimatologiques] font apparaître une relative stabilité du climat thermique puisque l'amplitude des températures moyennes n'aurait pas dépassé 5 à 6 °C sur les océans et une dizaine de degrés sur les continents, entre les épisodes les plus chauds et les périodes particulièrement rigoureuses.

Le climat thermique est assez uniforme; les étés du Sahara septentrional ne sont donc pas moins torrides que ceux de la zone centrale ou même de la région soudanaise. Juin, juillet et août sont les mois les plus chauds des zones septentrionale et centrale.
