A process used in the pulp and paper industry. Electrically produced mechanical energy is used to steam and refine wood chips into pulp. The steaming process softens the wood chips with the result that the pulp produced is of a higher quality than that obtained from other processes. Recovered steam may be used for space heating or for drying pulp fibres.

Technique utilisée dans l'industrie des pâtes et papiers. L'énergie mécanique produite par l'électricité sert à traiter à la vapeur les copeaux de bois et à les raffiner pour les transformer en pâte. La vapeur attendrit les copeaux de bois, ce qui permet de produire une pâte de qualité supérieure à celles obtenues par d'autres techniques. La vapeur récupérée peut servir au chauffage de locaux ou au séchage des fibres de pâte.
