THERMOSETTING [2 records]

Record 1 2014-03-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastic Materials
  • Plastics Industry
  • Textiles: Preparation and Processing
  • Packaging in Plastic
DEF

Having the property of becoming permanently hard and rigid when heated or cured.

CONT

Since the conversion of a linear polymer to a network polymer is often caused by heating with a cross-linking agent such as sulphur, the process is called thermosetting.

CONT

... thermoset moulding compounds.

OBS

Thermosetting resin: ... a resin that will permanently cure a fabric through heat application.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Matières plastiques
  • Industrie des plastiques
  • Apprêt et traitements divers (Textiles)
  • Emballages en matières plastiques
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Synthetic Fabrics
  • Textiles: Preparation and Processing
  • Man-Made Construction Materials
DEF

The process of stabilizing the structure and shape of fibers or fabrics by applying heat.

CONT

Preshrinking of cotton or "heat setting" of synthetics may be necessary for dimensional stability. The effectiveness of heat setting depends on the original stabilization temperature used. If the synthetic fabric is later exposed to a significantly greater temperature, dimensional change can occur.

OBS

thermosetting: having the property of becoming permanently hard and rigid when heated or cured: capable of changing from a plastic or fusible state to an infusible or insoluble state by a chemical reaction affected by heat or other means and leading to a complex high polymer.

Key term(s)
  • heatsetting
  • heat-setting

French

Domaine(s)
  • Textiles artificiels et synthétiques
  • Apprêt et traitements divers (Textiles)
  • Matériaux de construction artificiels
DEF
