Le robinet thermostatique a pour fonction de régler, sans apport extérieur d'énergie, le débit du fluide caloporteur alimentant le corps de chauffe (radiateur, convecteur, etc.), en fonction de la température ambiante désirée. Le principe en est simple : la température ambiante agit sur un détecteur et fait ainsi varier la course d'une tige reliée à un clapet réglant le débit d'eau dans le corps de chauffe.
