Les options portant sur la date d'entrée en vigueur du swap créent un mécanisme très proche de celui des swaps différés. Le titulaire de l'option obtient le droit de choisir librement la date à laquelle il souhaite exercer le swap. Mais il ne peut renoncer au swap lui-même; il est obligé d'entrer dans le swap; s'il ne choisit pas de date d'entrée en vigueur avant la date d'exercice de l'option, alors la date d'exercice de l'option devient la date d'entrée en vigueur du swap. Il s'agit donc d'un swap différé dont l'acquéreur de l'option maîtrise le différé.
