La présence [d'anticorps] est la traduction soit d'une infection antérieure, soit de la présence de l'agent pathogène responsable de la maladie en cours. Ce peut être également le résultat d'une vaccination antérieure. C'est pour cette raison qu'il est nécessaire de faire des prélèvements à une ou deux semaines d'intervalle pour montrer l'augmentation du titre (de la quantité) des anticorps spécifiques au cours de la maladie.
