The Tollund Man is the naturally mummified corpse of a man who lived during the 4th century BCE ... He was found in 1950 ... in Denmark, buried in a peat bog which preserved his body. Such a find is known as a bog body. The man's physical features were so well-preserved that he was mistaken at the time of discovery for a recent murder victim.

Homme de Tollund découvert en 1950 est maintenant exposé au musée de Silkeborg (Danemark) [...] Certainement mort et enseveli en hiver, l'Homme de Tollund a pu ainsi bénéficier d'un tannage de sa peau immédiat. Le processus de momification rapide lui a permis de conserver un aspect proche du sommeil. Après 2300 ans dans la tourbe, l'homme était si bien préservé que les découvreurs du cadavre ont pris peur, pensant qu'ils venaient de découvrir une scène de crime! En fait l'Homme de Tollund a bien été tué et la corde qui enroulait encore son cou en est la preuve.
