Hot-water sludge heaters are most frequently employed. It is possible to use coil exchanger in which the sludge recirculates slowly or tubular exchangers ... with fast circulation of both the sludge (1 to 2 m / s; 3 to 6 ft / sec) and the hot water (2 to 4 m / s; 6 to 12 ft / sec) giving exchange factors of up to 1200 kcal / oC m2 h (450 BTU / oC ft2 h).
