Copolymers of vinyl chloride. In 1928, chemists in the USA and in Germany produced copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate which were more flexible and more readily processed than the homopolymers. The American product developed by Reid was called Vinylite and letters were used to designate the composition. For example, Vinylite VYNW and VYHH contain 3% and 13% of vinyl acetate, respectively.

Copolymères chlorure/acétate de vinyle. Si les chlorures de polyvinyle ont un point de fusion élevé, se dissolvent difficilement dans les solvants organiques, et présentent des qualités de résistance à l'eau et aux produits chimiques excellentes, au contraire, les acétates de polyvinyle se ramollissent à basse température, sont plus sensibles à l'eau et aux agents chimiques, et se dissolvent facilement dans un grand nombre de solvants. [...] On peut en effet arriver, à un dosage convenable des polymères, à préparer des corps qui sont solubles (comme l'acétate) tout en conservant de nombreuses qualités du chlorure.
