Les antigènes de classe 1 interviennent dans la phrase effectrice de la réponse immunitaire (lymphocytes T, CD 8), soit dans le cadre de la réponse allogénique :[...] soit dans le cadre de la réponse anti-virale : reconnaissance et lyse par la cellule T d'une cellule portant à sa surface un antigène viral, associé à un antigène de classe 1 autologue. Dans ce cas, la molécule de classe 1 joue le rôle de présentoir de l'antigène et l a cellule T effectrice reconnaît spécifiquement à la fois les allo-antigènes d'histocompatibilité et l'antigène viral (restriction allogénique).
